City Hall

Built in 1888 to accommodate municipal offices, fire and police services, City Hall is still home the City of Charlottetown’s administrative offices and City Council Chambers. A unique example of a Romanesque Revival style municipal hall of its era, City Hall was designated a National Historic Site 23 November 1984.
It was designed by noted architectural firm, Philips and Chappell and built by William H Fraser and a host of talented craftsmen. A significant wing on the north side was designed in 1916 by Chappell and Hunter, but it would be 16 years before it was built in 1932.
The building has undergone a number of renovations since, but it remains one of the City’s most beautiful and recognizable landmarks.
