Charlottetown Fire Department

Fire protection had been a necessity in Charlottetown long before the establishment of the volunteer Fire Department in 1855 when the City incorporated. Beginning when Charlotte Town was a garrison town and the British Military provided fire services and the later implementation of the Fire Warden system and the citizen bucket brigade, the Charlottetown Fire Department has a long and fascinating history.

The Fire Department launched a website in April 2014 that not only provides fire prevention tips and information about its services; but explores the rich heritage of firefighting in Charlottetown. The site includes a wonderful collection of images and information relating to both the Department and fires that took place in the City over the years.
