The City Water Commission

City Water Commission c. 1980, Kirkwood Drive

The City Water Commission operated from City Hall and  had a building across the street for much of its early history. The Commission was given its own building in 1965, when 10 Kirkwood Drive was constructed.

The Water Commission had been relatively independent with its own elected officials, the water commissioners, until the City amalgamated in 1995 and the Water Department was established.  The building on Kirkwood Drive was renovated in approximately 2000 and Charlottetown Police Services was moved to the location. The Water Department was moved to Charlottetown City Hall.
