Named for alumnus, LM Montgomery, Montgomery Hall (or Monty Hall, as it was referred to by some) was built in 1961 as a women’s residence. The residence was equipped with a library, cafeteria, sick room, laundry facilities, accommodations for 104 girls, and a student centre that residents and non-residents could use. The common room was quite popular with students, particularly for its fine grand piano. The College had intended to expand in the 1960s but the plan was abandoned when PWC and SDU amalgamated to form UPEI. Interestingly, the expansion plans resumed under Holland College (founded in 1970) with not one, but two residences and numerous beautiful buildings that compliment the City’s east end.
