In the 1950s, Hillsborough Square was reseeded, playground equipment was added and asphalt paths were put down. Since then, the property has been used as a park. Many in the community took great pride in the square. Of the numerous activities that took place there, such as baseball, activities associated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlottetown were also conducted in Hillsborough Square due to its location just below the Notre Dame Convent and Academy. The group in the photo are part of the annual Roman Catholic Diocese’s Corpus Christi procession. Everyone is in their Sunday best and making their way from St. Dunstan’s Basilica and congregating on Hillsborough Square where they participated in the Benediction ceremony that took place on the steps of Notre Dame Convent. As with any of our images, we don’t always know who is pictured in them but we would love to find out! If you recognize anyone in the image, please contact us.
