During the Second World War, the former Beach Grove Inn and the buildings associated with it were used as a basic training centre for newly enlisted soldiers. The fields around the building were filled with army tents and hundreds of young men who were waiting to be shipped out. The inn building would later be used as an infirmary. The CABTC Beach Grove had a men’s band that entertained at special functions all over the Island, however in this photo, it was they who were being entertained by the Canadian Women’s Army Corps Band.
