Upon the declaration of WWI, the coal boat, Cacouna was commandeered to transport troops. The 4th Prince Edward Island Heavy Brigade, CGA, was sent to Sydney and Canso, Nova Scotia to guard the cable stations. Pictured here are patriotic citizens of Charlottetown gathered on the wharf to see their loved ones off. Batt’s tug boat can be seen in the foreground.
