After 83 years as a municipal hall, and one expansion on its north side, City Hall was becoming tired and outdated. In fact, in the 1960s, some suggested that it was “a fire trap” and should be torn down. We are thankful that in the 1980s and 2000s major restoration work was undertaken and the beautiful National Historic Site still stands proudly on the corner of Kent and Queen Streets.
