The Confederation Center of the Arts opened in 1964.  One year later, the Charlottetown Festival began with four shows including, the first showing of Anne of Green Gables – the longest running musical in Canadian history.

A later production that many still remember was Kronberg 1582, featuring Beverley D’Angelo (from the Vacation films) as Ophelia.
