Camping was a popular activity as far back as the late 19th century. It was a great way to escape the heat of the house on a warm summer evening, or sometimes it was the only option when relatives were “home from away” and took your bed. Either way, it was just plain fun to pack up a pillow, a blanket, and in the case above, a couple of favorite teddies and head out into the wilds of the back (or in this case front) yard to camp.
