A teacher for 44 years at schools like Queen Square Spring Park and Borden, Louise Hessian used her bicycle as transportation to get back and forth to work. She also used it for pleasure trips all over the Island. Her first bicycle was rented, however when the brakes failed on Mt. St. Mary’s Hill, she borrowed $35. on her teachers’ supplement to purchase her own bicycle. For a fascinating recording of Ms. Hessian’s memories, please listen to Dutch Thompson’s interview with her on Islandvoices.ca.
